Didn’t know what to really call this. I have no idea if this is known knowledge, but want to share. So I’ve been trapped trimming in the bathroom for a couple weeks a season. I know many of you know the pain. But this technique makes a lot less work for you while doing what you would be doing anyway ( if you cure in jars ). This was something my friend came up with and shared with me. It all set home when he showed me pictures of really airy bud becoming a lot more dense and less trim work. I have used this for at least 7 years and it works. Either way here it goes.
Just pluck/ cut you fan leaves off and any medium sized leaves sugar on em’ or not. Sloppy with plenty of the smaller sugar leaves on the bud. Like this
Now just shake and Burp like normal.
I will build it with more pictures and information as I go through this fresh weed

Interesting. I can see how it might work. I’ll be watching out of curiosity.
Everyone is different. A budy of mine does a relaxed “California trim” and leaves quite a bit on. For me though, a tighter manicure is ideal. Sugar leafs can be potent but to me, they lower the quality just a bit.
His weed (seeds he brought from Burma) is very good and for only that reason, it could be even better.
I’ll admit that I get a tired and a little less obsessive as the job progresses but if I see anything I pull it off before grinding.

This is just something that works. I’ve never been in a cannabis cup situation, but the buds come out looking good, and I do a whole lot less work.
Glad you are following this. Thanks for the interest

Ok next step. After you have been shaking & burping you will end up with sugar leaf shake at the bottom of the jar ( as seen in pic) . If you don’t remove it this can create mold. I dump the jar out in the trim bin, and put the buds back into the jar, and continue with shaking & burping. I like to roll up a joint or two with and bag up the rest for oil to be made later
So this is it just repeat until your cure is done. You might have a couple leafs that are still on the bud. If it matters to you they are easy to pluck off.

I try not to shake, or otherwise over-handle my buds. Lots of trichomes come off.
Less trichomes equals lower quality weed, and after 3-4 months of effort trying to grow the best buds I can, I want to try my best to preserve them.
That shake at the bottom is kief thats contaminated with powdered leaf particles. To get really great kief or hash to smoke, trim with scissors then sift or wash the trim.
Better bud, better kief.
Worth the time in jail IMO.
It’s great that you’re happy with the results, but I’ll pass thanks.

The green kief is what we always called grief . The kief I collect will be golden. This technique isn’t for everyone.
Every time you touch your buds you are losing or crushing tricomes. If you smoke an ounce in a hour you will never get higher than you were after the first gram you smoked.
I don’t get caught up in tiny differences. I remember when bubble started and was a big deal. We made it and it did nothing more than a bowl of kief, or hash. Just a waste of time IMO same with the difference between wax and shatter.
This technique is for people who understand this and don’t want to spend two weeks trimming. That’s all.
I am curious how you cure your weed without shaking jars, possibly you have one of those automated cure fridges? But hey whatever works for you is great
Thanks for you interest in this post

Anything to reduce trim time is a good idea! I just cut the fans and leave most sugars on because (a) I only grow for myself and don’t need shelf appeal (b) I mostly smoke joints and don’t even notice some leaf cut up with the bud (c) trim jail sucks
I’ve only cured in grove bags so I’ve never burped and the bud never gets dry enough to drop any keif but if I was in jars I’d probably be thinking like you because trimming sucks!

Amen to all that. Some day I will try the groove bags. Jars is what I was taught many moons ago, so I stay with it.

Grove bags are super simple. I might burp a bag once or twice right after bagging but other than that it’s set and forget.
I use a bowl trimmer for most of my stuff nowadays.

I’ve considered a bowl trimmer, but haven’t pulled the trigger. I do enjoy burping the jars and smelling the buds as they settle in over cure.

No need to defend your method
and its good that you are sharing with the community. As I said before It works for you and that’s all that matters. I’m not criticizing, just offering info and saying why it’s not for me.
I cure in ¼ lb grove bags and store in 1oz and ½oz grove bags.
I used mason jars for decades before I found grove bags. Grove bags are great IMO. I’ve had perfect cures every time with minimum effort. No burping, no mould, strong smell and it stays fresh for years. I have some El Chapo that I harvested more than 2 years ago that’s still very good.
Get a free sample pack and see for yourself! Jeez they should be paying me to market them, right?
*A few members say they had quality issues with Grove, but I haven’t, even after many reuses.
I don’t like it much but I can sit and trim for hours. Getting up and down, walking, etc are painful mobility issues so eliminating the burps and babysitting is a godsend.
Honestly, I don’t care much about bag appeal. If the buds are pretty, I might show off but it’s really only a bonus when I give gifts.
Priority one is effective medicine that addresses my conditions. Smell and taste are important. Keeping doses small is also important.
I smoke a bit in the summer but mostly I vape my flowers because I am admittedly sensitive to smells and flavors, which is the reason I want tight manicures and attached trichomes.
(I even ditched 4 piece grinders a few years ago simply because I want to vape/smoke the kief with the flower)

Right on. This is just away… I been given two different grinders, good quality ones. I never did like them because the kief was always grief. I have an old pollen catching box and trim bins for my kief, and it’s good enough for me. I am a stickler for wasting nothing per plant

I always tell myself I will try the grove bags when I don’t have enough jars. I’m willing to try new things. But plenty of 64 oz. Mason jars, and I get them real cheap down the road….

Outstanding results. The only time it wasn’t was my fault for over drying the weed. Even then, it wasn’t bad at all.
I’d recommend using a cheap wood moisture meter, aiming for 11-12% moisture rather than the snap test. Grove bags cure better with a little bit of moisture at the start, which will be removed by the membrane.
I realy doubt I’ll go back to curing in jars.
I might experiment with long term storage with argon in mason jars but the cure will still be in grove bags.

My experience with grove bags has been great as well. No issues with the cure but Ive had 3-4 bags where the zipper seal part has tore away from the bag. Even knowing that can happen I still use them.
I dont use a moisture meter as mentioned but I put the buds in early with a little extra moisture. Once in the bag I add a hygrometer in with the buds. First week I’ll check on them daily and might have to burp them a few times. Once Im around 65-67 rh% I let the bag do the rest.
After 4-6 weeks in the bags I put the buds in jars for storage and easy of use. Bulk goes into half gallon jars and I keep a half pint jar of each variety for getting into to smoke.
