Gas, finger paints: Happy little tress!

I’ll be documenting my journey with the Painted Lady from Brother Mendel’s Selections. Follow along as I try to channel my inner Bob Ross and create a masterpiece.

Germination

07/05/2026 3 seeds were dropped into a Mr. Fulvic and RAW kelp mixture to soak. As well as some Rapid Rooters soaking in the same solution.

07/06/2026 24hrs of soaking later. Plugs were squeezed out until they felt like a damp sponge. Then I opened up the pre made hole enough to get some mykos into it. Followed by placing the seeds pointy end down and covering with a pinch of the plug. I still havent worked out my permanent seed starting setup so cut solo cups it is. Humidifier is set to 80% and my exhaust fan triggers at 85 rh% eliminating the need for domes. Light is off until they sprout.

07/13/2026 First seed broke ground and stood tall.

07/14/2026 Second seed made it to the surface. I dug the third seed out of the plug and it hasnt even cracked. There was a good bit of the mykos packed on the seed and Im wondering if I didnt over do it on that one. So third seed might be my fault either way we got our 2 plants we were after. No tags yet, bottom of pic was the first.

From soak to sprout was 8 and 9 days. During that time I didnt water the plugs at all. The process was soak plugs, squeeze plugs to damp sponge feel, insert seed, and dump roughly 1 tsp of solution the plugs soaked in over seed location. After that they went into a dark tent at 78f and 80 rh%. Once the first sprout broke ground the lights were turned on 24hrs at 150 ppfd.

The plan is to grow 2 plants in 5gal fabric pots, using organic living soil, and blumats. If all 3 seeds make it then I’ll probably keep all 3.

I had a few speed bumps getting started and the chaos has my timing all off. I dont even have my soil mixed yet. Probably shouldve waited a few more days to drop the seeds but I was feeling some pressure to get started.

I know what you mean bro, sometimes the plate gets way too full.Well I hope it ain’t too crazy, take it easy and keep it easy on yerself. Can’t wait to see what you do with these. I’ll be dropping in a week or so myself, waiting on an apartment inspection to get started. You’ll be fine, don’t let the pressure get ya.

Im getting it figured out tonight. Shouldnt be too bad. Worst case I have to transplant from a small temp pot early veg.

Soil got mixed and watered with bennies. Didnt want to bother with the messy straw yet so just dropped some trays over the pots while they cook.

Ive got maybe 4 days before the plugs will need to be put into pots. This is a problem because the pots should be at their peak temperature in that timeframe. Im just going to take it day by day. Maybe I get more than 4 days. Maybe the cook doesnt get that warm this mix. Maybe I have to put the plugs in a temporary pot.

I just dropped a quick comment last night while I was at work because I wanted to be able to come back to this.

I love the style that you chose to do this journal!

The fact you can just edit the top post to keep all of the information for the grow right at the top and then you can engage with the community underneath that.

Thx. This is the way the gas chamber will be eventually. Ive had plans to do one big post summarizing each grow then adding it to the OP for easy navigation. I just havent had a grow worth doing that with yet. The gorilla cookies was halfway done and the 5x5 autos were a test of a bunch of new stuff. The soil gushers will probably be the first “case study” where I put it all together.

i’m a big fan.

If you don’t mind, I’ll probably try to imitate it.

I wanted to find a way to make my journals more concise, and had plans to do something different with a new journal when I was just going to grow JUST the lemon kix…. but now since I’m doing four different strains and it’s all going to be in the one tent… i’m kind of back to square one and just posting it all in the same journal.

All that being said, I’m going to be starting my breeding project at the same time so I could use this style of post for my breeding journey!

No worries bro! Go for it.

Lights just came on and I checked on the plugs. Got a small sliver of hope showing on one of them.

Finally, after a 24hr soak and 6 days in the plug, we have a sprout. She was still hooked with just a tiny bit of leaf holding her in the u shape. I gave her a gentle nudge to pop her free. Im going to wait a couple days before updating the OP hoping the others are right behind her.

Man that was hairy! Just about a week holding my breath for those lol. Hope she takes off! And I hope the others pop too! How many seeds were in the pack?

7 pack. Got 4 left but not sure I want to drop more and have them staggered. Might just run the 1. I’ll see what tomorrow brings then make a decision.

At this point, for a journal, I’d just run the one. If you dropped another bean or more now that would put you at two wks behind minimum. Unless you planned on running multiple methods, then timing isn’t as important.

Youre right. I was leaning towards just the one. Hope these other 2 pop tho. Not enough space for multiple methods on this run. I was planning to stake one, grow one natural, and use some basic lst on one. If I just end up with the one I’ll probably do the lst. Pinning branches down stretching her out.
