Well folks, I told myself I wasn’t going to do a journal, just hang and chat with friends. But being back here, and the fact that I’ve grown nothing for 9 months, ( I’ll explain later ) I decided it was time. I still have oodles of bud, Septembers harvest was a bumper crop! So… most of what I reap from this grow, will be made into hash! A project I’ve long wanted to do. Waiting on sprouts right now, as I work to clean up the growroom. What will grow in the main tent will depend on if my landrace Mazar sprouts, I only had three seeds left. If not then my Mazar x GDP will go in there. I’ll be using 7 gallon pots with organic soil ( my simple blend ).
Tent is a AC Infinity 48x48x80. Lighting currently is a DIY HLG Diablo light runninh at 480 watts and driven by a pair of 240 drivers. I’m thinking though that I’m going to go back to individual heatsinks and frames, so that I have two light I can raise and lower or tilt separately. I may experiment with going to a pair of 185 watt drivers. I don’t do CO2 so I figure if I taylor my light to produce 800-900 ppfd I’ll have plenty of light and use less power.. I’m already cringing about the power bill!
Also, I decided to try AC Infinity’s XL self watering bases with 7 gallon fabric pots. Should be interesting
hey Pop’, great to see your journal started! Looks like you’re onto some heavy meds for this run… LOL
What’s the scoop on your Mazar, that is, origin specifics and such? Crossing to GDP was a good choice, has any been grown out yet?
I’ve been tempted to try some landrace hashplant types, but they tend to be weak against botrytis, so I’ve not ventured the risk… The GDP cross should be pretty solid for that, since GDP in a Cali classic…
I got the Mazar i Sharif from The Real Seed Company. I love Mazar, my favorite Indica! It’s also known as Mazary, and Milk of Mazar. Consider one of the best hashplants to come out of Afghanistan . This is no average hashplant either. Plants have tested as high as 20% THC!
And yes this is one of my top two medical plants for pain, and now I have crossed the two! Mazar and GDP was a match made in heaven. Yes, I have a stash of it right now and have been keeping it in my rotation since Sept. The Royal Dragon is a keeper also Blue Dragon x GDP.
I use to get a great Auto Mazar from Linda Seeds, but they don’t have it anymore. Everyone else’s Auto mazar has Skunk in it. Takes away from the Mazar taste which I love. I’ve been growing the Bulk Seeds Mazar XXL Auto. It a decent cultivar, still has Skunk in it though.
I did have some bud rot in the greenhouse but it was ridiculously humid that summer, My greenhouse cover would sweat at night and drip on the buds… and there was not a lot. Indoors I’ve never had an issue
The landrace Mazar is easy to grow and finishes about 9 weeks. Everyone tells you ( and I never listen…lol ) don’t feed landraces heavy. Bah, my organic mix runs fairly hot and my Mazars love it!
I’m drooling just thinking about a nice, fresh batch of Mazar bud!
Ahhh, Real Seeds is treasure trove! ACE had some interesting landrace Indi’s too, one of which is Afghan Lemon. At least they are honest about culture needs, she’s a true desert queen and bud rot is an issue in relatively high RH%'s, which is my place 24/7/365!
Yeah, it’s hit & miss with such hashplants, and it seems to me the local botrytis is a particular SOB strain, very aggressive… That’s great news to see that yours is showing good resistance
The other downside is the uncertain expression of CBD content that’s common with such hashplants.
Looking at the info now,… sexy! Do you get the pink-red pistils? They don’t mention any aroma info, what do you get usually?
I think the fact that you’re running rich soil that’s organic-based is the key… mineral nutes are too “right now” available, all too easy to burn!
Nothing has sprouted yet, but i did direct to soil ( which I never do… ). Figure another day or two we should see a few pop up.
I just discovered that AC Infinity has an auto watering kit for their self watering bases! Think I’m going to splurge and get the kit. $39.95 for a kit for 4 bases.
!6 out of 18 sprouted! Now if the all live… and all three Mazar sprouted! I’m stoked! I’ll start filling my 7 gallon pots today.
I got the wicks in the bases so they are ready. I didn’t like the idea of just two crossed wicks so I laced them to give more surface area. I figure they have at least double the surface area of wick.
I also had failed to mention that these are the new, XL bases that hold 2.3 gallons of water.
AHH nice , I talked to Bonobo a few months ago he doesn’t work with the auto duck anymore, he grows some crosses he made with his Lebanese landrace as I remember right.
