Hello grow friends, hope your are all doing well!
In summary, I’m just wondering if anyone uses Ecowitt moisture sensors in the same pot with Blumat tropfs? If so, whats the lowest reading you have noticed getting on the ecowitt? I mean, have you noticed at what Ecowitt reading the Blumat normally activates?
I’m aware this will vary depending on soil and plant, and the Blumats work with soil tension while the ecowitt work with soil water content, but Id love to have some reference to see if my new Tropfs are working well or if I didnt calibrate them well enough.
Context:
Im not sure about my calibration because I recently got the Blumat Tropf kit (not precalibrated) for 2 of my 3 gal plastic pots in which I have been using Roots Organics Original susbtrate and which I usually hand water according to the readings of Ecowitt sensors. When hand watering them, I’ve usually let the Ecowitt sensor get down to 25-27% before watering. Watering them raises the Ecowitt reading up to 40-50% and then slowly drops as time passes during the day.
I installed the Blumats yesterday after doing a dry calibration. The Ecowitts were reading 44% in both pots when I put the Blumats in. When one pot lowered to 43% after an hour or so, the Blumat in it activated and drove the reading back up to 44. Asummimg this was not supossed to happen, I turned the knob on that blumat one triangle back. That pot now reads 41% and the Blumat hasnt activated since. The other pot has also lowered below 44 but the Blumat in it hasnt activated yet. So, not sure if Im on the right track.
