The Blue Cheese is smelling a bit like hot trash with rotting fruit and curtled milk. You know the kind of aroma that stings the nose but stinks so good. Its still early so it can shift a lot as you know.
The Malawi Gold got hit with blue Cheese pollen as did everything this run. Im not sure where the beans originated from a customer had gifted them to me.
Im really looking forward to the SSH x BC beans. From what I’ve gathered it’s a pairing never done before of 2 old school bangers IMO.
I really enjoy working with cultivars i had experiences with in my youth during the mid 90s. Those cultivars will definitely make a comeback. With a market flooded with 8 week cultivars the 12 to 16 week old school hazes are what command top dollar. Exotic special cultivars will definitely make a comeback here soon, and real growers will take back the market from corporate crap.
- oh man, that’s a great sign for the BChz! …I bet it holds to that mostly…
I’d say MG x BChz and SSH x BChz are both novel crosses … both should make for some very interesting outcomes!
I was reading up on MG,… naturally, the original source is a mystery - LOL It depends on who collected it, where/which region, if they worked it at all… Aroma notes I see are citrus/lemon, banana, floral, spicy… You getting any of these?
Have you checked out Mandala’s site? They carry several off-path breeders, ACE, their own in-house, etc… good source for heirloom/landrace stuff. And they ship to USA, unlike ACE… ACE put out some damn nice looking crosses this year! Brume of Incense might be of particular interest to you, I think a PNG x KaliChina, African Gas, several others that fit the bill for what you may be looking for… Hybrids with more reasonable grow/bloom times, unique aroma combos, fab’ highs… … go window shop at least! I almost bought the Brume of Incense, it’s a limited release, not too long blooming too… I held back only because a mate sent me something from BlueStar Seeds called Franky Church, an incense Haze x Blue Star…
This reminds me to go look around for stuff from Budularo brand. These guys are doing mainly long cycle NLD’s, even “pearl” pheno’s and getting it out to the market here in CA! Papa Bud is the original breeder/isolater of some of the cuts, but it’s his son and son-in-law that are the growers/company. Bud is an old fella, health is shaky these days sadly so he’s not active on line much less growing… I hope the company is doing well at least!
Anyways, 3 Cheers to cutting new paths in genetics offerings Jean! …getting the market to bite is a challenge, but there’s some traction to be gained for this I feel…
This MG so far has a floral spicy citric aroma. The guy that gifted them to me said they had a spicy earthy aroma on the ones he ran.
I haven’t window shopped for seeds in a while. I bought the BC, SSH, AK47 and ChemDawg and out of the 12 seeds I got for 120$ i got 1 BC and 1 SSH. It so far has been worth the $ because both the BC and SSH are looking and smelling fire. It definitely threw a wrench in my breeding plans.
Im not sure how many cultivars im wanting to work with because I would like to focus on a few projects I really enjoy and work in a new one every now and then.
In all honesty every project I work is just for me and my personal preferences. Im not into creating mainstream cultivars for the consumer because I dont like much of the new hype strains.
I am happy to see that some breeders are keeping the old school land race cultivars as they will help diversifie this GMO base genetic that everything seems to lean towards now days in the legal market.
This 5 x 5 is a full on messy situation. 3 plants way too big for this grow chamber. Oops. Super silver haze and Malawi Gold squished the Rev into a corner on thos round.
Getting things ready for the outdoor season. MJ-12 Project, Amethyst, Michigan Mad Man, The Rev, Blue Cheese Clone and a Super Silver Haze Clone are all set to get a direct soil transplant!
Wowza the Super Silver Haze is a frosty mofo. I sampled a bit yesterday after only 6 weeks in flower and this stuff is cronic already! She hits like a champ. Im looking forward to where 9 weeks gets this girl..
The smell is grey if it had a smell like purple lol. Its a bit fruity and a bit of what a pharmacy smells like from all the pills with a musty dankness with a haze undertone if that makes any sense. I got clones from her. What a bitch to clone, they took 6 weeks to finally root. Im glad I have them so I can self it and use it in the next breeding run.
MJ-12 Project 3 phenos looking and smelling dank AF. 3 distinctly different phenos in this R2 generation. Im looking forward to sampling and deciding on my favorite. One has some small dense nuggs that is super frosty and gassy loud that’s catching my eye right now.
The Blue Cheese pollen donor plant. Super stoked about this one. Sweet and funky cheesie gas funk aroma. Nice structure on it for my preference. I can’t wait to smoke on this, it’s been far too long since I’ve toked on my favorite bud.
Blue Cheese pollen donor pheno looking and smelling chronic! Nice sandy trichomes also, looking real hashie. Day 52 in flower and nearing the end! Got some samples drying now.
The Super Silver Haze is a real gem. I am beyond stoked I went through the trouble of cloning this one! She took forever to shoot roots, over 5 weeks before they took to rooting. I can’t wait to check out the new beans from the Blue Cheese pairing.
The MJ-12 Project phenos are looking real nice and getting close. I need to get more recent pics. Definitely 3 distinct phenos in this run. One that leans heavy on the Cream Cheeze, one heavy on the Northern Lights, and one blended pheno. This current run is a back crossing to the Blue Cheese.
I harvested the Super Silver Haze this weekend at day 63. What a beastly plant. Aroma was still shifting towards the end it will be interesting to see where it lands. What a beautiful grow. I can’t wait to see how the clone does outdoors this summer!
