I’m growing 4 Night Owl seeds in 100% canna coco and using the tray2grow. I’ll be using RO water with Canna A&B and GH CaliMagic until early flower when I start supplements.
The seeds were sowed in final pot and all sprouted together 8 days ago. I’ve been doing lights 24/0 last few grows but switching to 18/6 for this grow. I like to start feeding them daily the day they sprout and starting EC is 2.0 and DLI about 30. Hand fed first 7 days and put them on tray today .
Oh man I never took it that way! Lots of my friends trip a little on the high ec (among other habits of mine ) but everyone has their own style so I never think of opinions as judgements.
The opening post was short due to screen problems and since we’re starting fresh on a new site I just wanted to add some grow details…
I’m using a 4x4x7 Covert tent with a 4x4 630w light. Currently around 375 watts and 44 inches above pots which gives me a starting DLI of about 30. Light is on 18/6.
I’m a big fan of autopots and the trays. The tray uses the same valve function as the autopot and is basically a capillary mat with a root control sheet on top. No air domes or air bases needed with the trays and you don’t have to wait until leaves reach edge of pot to start using them. Many people I know actually put their plant on the tray the day they drop the seed and let her go with never hand feeding. I prefer waiting until after the sprout feed is done and I’m starting first phase of early veg. To each his own. I love these systems because the plants eat when they want instead of depending on me which has shown a big difference in health and yield. Never having to remove waste water is also a big plus. Set it and forget it!
Currently using just one 12 gallon reservoir for both trays but will break out the second res around flower and have one res for each tray.
Along with the calmag and canna a&b the supplements I use in flower are Big Bud, PK boost, and Overdrive. I’ve been told starting with 2.0 ec and feeding every day from sprout will harm the plants but it’s simply not true, once I broke the norm my plants immediately doubled in size with no sacrifice to health or potency. I saw Autopotamus say in a vid that’s how he feeds so I tried it (because why him and not me?) and the first grow I utilized the plan I grew my first pound plant. As stated above I’ve only grown Mephisto, Night Owl, and Speedrun seeds so I can only speak for those strains, I understand some are just bred to be fed lightly.
Lastly I can’t stress enough that I’m never trying to grow a perfect plant. The less I have to think the happier I am. For example I don’t change my recipe mid grow because some leaves look funny and I don’t test ph in the pot, just the res. My attitude is that it’s just a weed and will be fine at the end. Even with error filled grows as I was learning, the bud in the end was fire so I don’t get anal about anything. I grow for just two of us at home, with 3 pounds currently in the fridge I could stop growing for a year but I just enjoy the hobby too much. And with the pots and trays I’m only spending 20 minutes a week mixing a cocktail so it’s just too easy. I’ll be back after work with an update to see how the plants have taken to the tray. They just started the first half of early veg nutes which has 2ml/gal more of the a&b bringing the current ec up to 2.2.
Hope I didn’t bore anyone but this is my only form of social media so I can get a bit chatty
Day 11…everyone seems to be happy their feed got bumped up a little when I put them on the tray the other day so they’re now at 2.2 ec and 5.8 ph. On the left side of the tent I have two Chemmy Powers
I’m near the beach in Southern California so my weather is relatively stable but humidity will rise and fall dramatically. My tent door is open for much of my grow mostly to keep temps below 80 and fresh air plus a little extra Co2 from the dogs and I can’t hurt lol right now we’re in a warm and dry spell so I have the humidifier on higher setting than normal and throwing some nice cool mist from the top with the flap allowing enough to escape and maintain around 65% rh and 77 degrees.
Super interesting stuff never understood the high e.c thing myself but their is obviously something to it iv watched the autopotamus vids the guy can grow some huge plants i was thinking of getting the xl auto pots but maybe the trays would be more versatile
Day 17…very happy with plant progression overall, they just look ugly at the moment because I’m leaf tucking where possible, this is where the fun begins because I get to be hands on. In a few hours they will all bounce back to normal so I tend to them a couple few times a day. Most times the first node will be as high or higher than the main and have the fattest colas if i start exposing them asap. One advantage to bottom feeding is I can constantly push the fans downward while using surrounding fans to help and covering the coco is not a problem. Soon the big fans will be used to nudge branches in a strategic direction. Like a cool puzzle, hit a little sativa and get at it
Good to see another tray2grower! I upgraded in November 2024 and like them but it’s taken a while to get this system dialed in and understand how best to anticipate things. It’s difficult to adjust nutrients when running 4 different strains. So I try to just run the same strains in the same tray.
I haven’t had issues yet as far as nutes with different strains, but sometimes different heights could be an issue if you’re looking an even canopy across the tent. Didn’t bother me or the plants here, but I could see it bumming some growers out
You’re running straight coco and nutrients. I’m running live soil hybrid coco mix. But yeah height was an issue this run for me. Had to lower the power to 50% and raise the light to the top.
Day 20…I forgot I was running 3gal pots this grow lol so I don’t have nearly as much room to leaf tuck as I’m used to so I may end up cutting a couple bigger fans earlier than anticipated. I try to let them live an uneventful veg life so as not to distract them but sometimes the ocd kicks in and I can’t handle all the shade. Everything cool so far, the first node is on the left and second on the right. First slightly ahead as it should be and catching up to the main.
Day 25…so far so good. The pain in the ass leaf tucking has them looking like bushes rather than christmas trees so that’s cool. Some bottom leaves have brown spots or a tear in them but that’s just from the constant tucking and the leaves sitting on the moist coco. Switching from early veg to mid veg nutes which is basically just 2ml/g more of the A&B. This So Cal weather is frustrating right now because one day its 70 degrees 75% RH and the next it’s 84 degrees 25% RH! I prefer my tent doesn’t reach 80 degrees so I’m using the AC in the garage from about 1-6pm when necessary to keep it around 77.
