I used to be terrified of germinating seeds. Especially the paper towel method and just handling a taproot. I. Pretty clumsy and have ruined quite a few seedlings just being clumsy with big hands. My survival rates were terrible. Since using the Root Riot plugs I don’t have to handle anything but the plug that protects the seedling, and because the roots are contained in the plug and grow into the surrounding medium, there is zero transplant shock, which is another issue that bothered me, especially with autos being on such a tight time schedule.
I’ve never used them for seeds, just clones. As to transplant shock, I’ve never had that happen. It’s a matter of technique. Tip the plant upside down in your hand with the stem between your fingers. Give the pot a couple light squeezes and lift the pot off the rootball! Do this close to your next pot, lower it close to the soil then flip it. I’ve never lost a plant and I see growth within hours of transplanting. Even with some mild damage to the rootball, they take off, They WANT more soil!
Yeah I’ve had terrible luck with transplants, only attempted a few times for myself. It could have been those particular genetics were sensitive to root damage, as I did lose a few smaller roots. Stuff that sticks to the pot, or goes thru holes. Maybe I should try again, but I really don’t see the need with my current methods. Give germinating in the plugs a shot, put em in a humidity dome and bam, sprouts.!
Edit: I’m talking about autoflowers, photoperiods aren’t an issue obviously.
Your right, always do what works for you! I’ve just made a study of ways of growing and have done terrible things to some plants lol!
Think I’m going to try soil cubes, I have the tool, just never got around to using it. Hmm
Vaped some Mazar x White Rhino a while ago! Thus the diarrhea of the keyboard hahaha!
I’m smoking some Honeymoon Passion by Roc Bud Inc, it’s Grape Mints(Wedding Cake) x Blueberry Passion auto, about as tasty as it gets, but I may need a nap soon
, it’s my day off and my kids are either out of town or busy today, so I can do that! Got any plans today?
Going out to work on my raised beds!
Sweet!! Jealous ![]()
gotta love a set of raised beds.So nice ![]()
Even better, I rent and they are ok with them!
Day 13…
Everyone’s on time except for the little triple dipple! Blue Face OG is taking its time, I suspect it has to do with the mutation, at this point I’m keeping it to see what happens, yielder or not. The Lecter is a bit smaller than the others as well, but just barely, I know it has explosive growth in later stages. Here they are, almost 2 wks old.
Day 16…
Today they started their training. Most of them anyway, the Lecter is a node behind the others so will be another day or two, and the triple dipple Blue Face OG is just taking its sweet weird little time lol. I bent each girl over at 90* possibly a hair further. Trying to break that apical dominance. Once that growth tip is lower than the rest of the branches, the plant will no longer suppress the lower growth.
Temps are getting a little warm, so I mixed up a new batch of c02. That plus the available silica I’m my mix should help them coax with the heat a little better.
Day 26…
Took a few leaves from the girls that were either blocking light and or airflow. Also gave each a 1/4cup top dressing with Craft Blend by BAS and watered it in.
hey brother, what’s the recipe for that CO2 bottle? I know you said it at one point… but you know how searching for things can be lol
Two cups of sugar plus one tablespoon baking soda in the two liter bottle. Mix one tablespoon yeast with one tablespoon sugar in a cup of like warm water and let it sit for 5mins to activate. When activated, pour yeast and sugar water over the sugar and baking soda, add water to top line of two liter bottle. Use dechlorinated and de chloriminated water, distilled, ro, etc. voila! C02 generator that lasts about two wks depending on temps, when it’s hot it produces way more c02 but doesn’t last as long, if you make a secondary bubbler bottle you can see when it stops making c02. You wanna see one bubble every 5-7 seconds at least. @Simply_nuggets
Much appreciated, brother!
