All that said doesnt mean he is the worlds first!
One thing you’ll never catch me doing is claiming others work. I’ll never say I was the one to 420scrog first. 420 autoflower will always get credit. I just started the gas chamber on overgrow and had to post my monster canopies for attention. Didnt take credit and gave credit to the one that deserves it. Even when showing off at the local grow store 420 autoflower gets credit irl too.

To my knowledge, Dankstyle-J’s original thread was one of the earliest WELL-DOCUMENTED public efforts specifically to organic living coco, and more specifically, for the cultivation of autoflowers with organic living coco.
You are correct, there are records of others discussing it in earlier years, but with more emphasis on the use of bottled nutrients; not a biologically active living system. There is a lot of cannabis-related discussion involving living coco that came after 2017 that is actually attributed to his journal and work.
Can we concretely, legitimately 100% prove he’s the first? Probably not, because there’s always going to be a semantic element in the way for an argument (and I’m not here to have a dog in that fight
But he does have one of the historically earliest, well-known and documented sources on it for autoflowering cannabis.
And that, we can (and should) celebrate, without it being a pissing contest ![]()
I have a stellar point to make on this: Did 420autoflower invent scrogging? No. Are there other growers before him that have scrogged cannabis to crazy extremes? Yes, Northern Scrogger is a great example. But, he took something others have been doing already (and for some time,) and sensationalized it for autoflowers. So does 420autoflower deserve all the credit for scrogging autos, when others have done it before he did? Or do we acknowledge the work he’s done for his efforts with using a technique he didn’t create that’s not often used with autoflowers and producing amazing results?
Right he invented an entire recipe and process. Its actually the 420 autoflower method. Its not just scrogging. Maybe I havent found it yet and its out there but I havent seen anyone before him use the 420 autoflower method. So I give him credit. If I found out other wise Id say “I was taught by 420 but I think so & so came up with it.”
There is clear evidence that @Dankstyle-J isnt the first in the world to do living coco and claiming it is false. A better choice of words would be he refined living coco specifically for autoflowers. I said ealier I think hes killing it doing a great job and my only issue is the very loud claim of being the first/ worlds first.

For the sake of both of you; I am truly not trying to pick sides here, because I think you’re both stellar growers and great dudes from what I know of both of you and how you carry yourselves.
And I actually think we’re closer in agreement than it might seem. I don’t think anyone can legitimately prove who the very first person in the world was to grow organically in coco. Reasoning being that growing weed has always been full of independent experimenting (it’s gonna get weeeeeird,) private gardens, and forum posts that have disappeared over the years (to prune or not to prune is even a real struggle we’ve dealt with here.) Let’s not even talk about all the people that grow weed that don’t spend ANY time online (those freaks.)
I’ve personally invented numerous things that later on in life, I saw as products online or on a shelf. The remote control ATV hammering dildo on tank tracks? I came up with that! And then some deranged pervert went to market with it first.
By the way, everyone stay the fuck out of my browser history.
I digress. Proving a true “first” is an incredibly high bar.
What I do think we can talk about is what was publicly documented, well explained, and influential.
To my knowledge, Dankstyle’s thread is one of the earliest well-documented public journals focused specifically on a biologically active, living coco system for autoflowers.
Whether he was literally the first human being to ever do it? None of us can say with certainty. But his journal undoubtedly became a reference point that many growers learned from and built upon. I can structure searches on various platforms asking it about living coco and autoflowers, trying to eliminate bias in the ask, and this fella’s name does in fact pop up in reference more often than not (not as the 1st, but as a major influencer.)
I think the comparison to 420autoflower is actually a good one. He didn’t invent scrogging, LST, supercropping, defoliation, etc. Those techniques existed long before him, but he refined, combined, documented them, and popularized them for autoflowers. That’s why people refer to it as the 420autoflower Method today, right?
Likewise, if someone else was experimenting with living coco before Dankstyle, they deserve credit for their work too. But I think he also deserves recognition for his work and sharing his approach in a way that reached and helped a lot of growers.
Ultimately, I don’t think this has to be an either/or discussion. We can acknowledge that ideas are usually built on the work of those who came before us, while still celebrating the people who build on and inspire others to adopt those ideas.
To me, that’s how this community has always moved forward!
Beautifully said
i was just trying to acknowledge their work atleast ten yrs old and hadn’t seen any others go full Monty like his for autos in particular. You can delete those if ya want..imma delete what I posted..just trying to acknowledge his work.was gonna say we’re all good growers, good ppl and friends here![]()

I think we’re all good! I see grown adults have a grown adult discussion. We’ve admittedly had a few flags on this (and some personal messages to my phone haha,) but that’s because you guys care and give a shit enough to want to keep this a safe place. And that’s dope.
Well, which one of you is growing the “real” haze huh?
And what about Old Timers Haze vs Tom Hill Haze vs Todd McCormick? Who’s the real one! Who! Dangit! You dont know nothin! neither of yas cause you aint old enough!
I was there, I think, that time with the stuff in the place where they did the thing.. right… so …
Y’all that devolved like a haze-head thread. IYKYK.
Me too! ![]()
Todd McCormick
That dude’s a fucking goof.
Y’all that devolved like a haze-head thread. IYKYK.
Its not a pissing match. Its not a my opinion vs dank. Its not this story or that story. I provided 3 links that took me a few minutes to find so no telling how many threads there are out there . Just in the links I provided there are hundreds of growers discussing coco in their no till organics. I dont need to prove who the actual first was. Im saying that dank isnt the first like they claim. The proof is right there in black and white.
I dont look past the facts to protect someones feelings or ego.
Alright you posted links… but it is obvious that you did not read them in depth. First, the Grasscity threads contain NOTHING about coco coir in their soil mixes. The the THC farmer story give no actual evidence to support it’s claims of coco coir organic growing. Posting a couple links is not research supporting a supposition when no effort was made to confirm the supposed information you claim the links have.
So you can maintain your indignation when you give us something solid that YOU have confirmed!
No it’s not a pissing match, but it is an insult to all when you claim you know something you obviously don’t.
indignation
There is no emotion involved on my side of this. I havent went off the rails, no personal attacks, havent msg the admin on his personal phone, no flagged msg, and no real disrespect of any kind. A little bit of sarcasm and being a smartass.
I didnt link a thc farmer thread. Did you read the hundreds of pages of discussion among those threads? Surely not because there are multiple growers talking about using coco in their mixes. Search the threads for coco!
Once again I dont have to prove who was first or who does it the best. Thats not how this started. I came here to catch up on danks grow but I was delivered a screenshot of him googling himself claiming to be the first to do living coco. I asked him if that was what he was claiming. He laughed at me and provided another screenshot.
I provided the evidence that clearly shows he isnt the first to do living coco. The thread doesnt have to be titled living coco and the OP recipe doesnt have to be about coco. There are growers in those threads discussing coco in no till organics. Thats all I need to prove my point. I dont know why this is so hard for ppl to understand! Look I’ll post the same image from above where I highlighted coir(coco) as an option for the recipe and its from 2007.
Ive proved my point, I cant force ppl to accept it. If ppl want to keep commenting I’ll keep defending the truth. Let dank get back to his grows.
II missed that one, my apologies.
Only one time in my life did I get anything I thought might actually be the real deal Original Haze. Any time I’ve had the chance I’d grab any “haze” I could get my hands on. Out of all those times I had a buddy who said he got some thru a friend and it was the real deal. It blew every other haze Id ever tried out of the water. Literally an elite example of flower that makes you question what it is you are smoking, and how on earth can you get to this inner circle of magic guarded weed??? I’ve come across a few strains in my time, grown by masters, who mastered their strains thru years of cultivation, Learning everything these girls want and need to reach that potential. There are strains out there that would make us question everything we thought we knew about cannabis. When I find that strain for myself, I will do everything I can to preserve it, whether that be seed, mom or whatever. My dream would be to produce something so stable hunting phenos would produce winners every time a seed popped. Goals…
Well you proved there was organic coco but you didn’t prove these cats have the same methods as I do an maybe that’s why they weren’t calling it living coco I read every page an not once did I see fungal mats ,feeding with fermented anerobic teas made with amendments an organic wild crafted matter which is needed to be real living coco .An my thread is the first because it delves into organic coco only all threads you referenced have tons of soil info something a first living coco thread obviously wouldn’t have .if I want to call my methodology living coco an have strict rules an guidelines on what it is an what it’s not that my right I pioneered Living coco And if I wanna google my name an see my achievements or use that as a reference who cares I did google your username name an got nothing so I guess I can see the anger there .
that is one basic mix though..tells its early and looking for cheap..walking mart castings. ie: colored dirt really
although mushie is good ya need about a 50-50 fungal and bacterial as we know.but mentions others built home compost..which I’m guessing he goes into explaining..damn 2007
Walmart castings. And I remember when ppl weren’t sold on prilled lime yet..trip reading that ![]()
That much worm castings I would not recommend instead establishing a living colony is my preferred method.I looked over that entire no thrill thread an got no fungal mats of white goodness no non pump fermentation teas an a whole lot of info for soil growing an in my opinion some really bad coco mixes which are definitely organic coco but not living coco which is even google recognized as a specialized growing technique.
Yeah..I didn’t even look at the amounts tbh..just what it had in general and k ew it’d fall massively short in a hurry..but yeah I agree.need them wee mini me’s to get shit done. And break down more completely. Like back when they’d sit osmocote to break down in tubes.n pots then use that for photos and what not..apparently is was one of the early ferts that worked really well i suppose when prepped that way.strange..like using match sticks as phosphorus n trace minerals n such..crazy
