Went in to tell my babies good night and found some good news in the 2x4. We’ve got another hook showing. I had to check on them and carefully moved the little plug over the hole to see whats happening. Didnt see any progress on the third so I left that one in the dark.
The first to sprout got situated and standing over the last 8hrs. First set of trues almost the size of the cotyledons within the first 9hrs. lol. Decently thick stem too.
That’s a buff looking little sprout! Weird, but in a cool way, almost doesn’t even look like weed!
Hoping it’s a good sign for the future.

I avoid going in the room until the lights come on for the photos. Thats in 30 min and I’ll grab some pics. But they arent impressing me. Yesterday neither one of them had roots out of the rapid rooters plug. I wanted to test the root pruning on autos so I was leaving the plugs out of the pots. Yesterday I moved one of the plugs to a pot and left the other out. The one I left out might not be in good shape today. I checked on her last night before bed and the plug was pretty dry but I wanted to try to steer the roots with the dryback so I left it. Its been 13hrs since then. lol! Anyways pics in a few
Roots won’t grow into a completely dry medium as far as I know. I plan on altering a tray sorta like the speedrun rooting tray. Cutting the bottom out but allowing the sides/walls to keep the moisture in. Their theory is kinda how you explained. Air pruning the taproot, and forcing the roots to explode sideways. I think Im gonna try it, but I dont know if I want to wait that long for transplant. I like transplanting the sprout early, before there are roots coming out everywhere, so there is no disruption of said roots and therefore no transplant shock. I’m running 9 plants this round so I might experiment on a few.
They havent been dry at all up until last night for the one and that was out of frustration with the development. Im not real happy with what Im seeing. My seed and seedling care is proven but it is the first time for using rapid rooters. Been playing with the idea of dropping a couple more seeds. Possibly start over and try in coco coins.

Thats cool though, kinda confirms that it works with autos. There are several trays out there that already have the bottoms open. My hold up is figuring out what my final go to starter plug is going to be.

I think where you went wrong was adding that extra teaspoon of solution, when you squeeze them out to like a moist sponge, they hold the perfect amount of water to germ and will stay moist inside a dome for at least 5 days or until they pop. The only thing I have to spray is the dome of it dries out. Just a theory, but it may hold water lol, pun intended!
Edit: I’ve also had better success since I stopped soaking the beans.
I was dogging your idea, but i had to research it first. I have to check out at least 5 different sources before I try something new
Germ isn’t really the issue and none damped off. I wasn’t using domes(humidifier in tent) and there is a clip fan going too. That’s why I added the splash of extra solution.
My problem is the seedlings not growing roots out of the plug in a weeks time. I’ve been over and over my process, I can’t see where I made a mistake. 
Yeah that’s slow, a week after sprout they should be exploding with roots! If you got more beans, drop a couple and be super strict to follow your steps, if it happens again it’s probably the genetics, I would even maybe do a side by side with a cheap or freebie bean as a control bean lol.
I don t think blaming the genetics is fair. Maybe bad seeds from age, storage, shipping, etc. Im going to take responsibility tho. There is a chance I stalled them after sprout when trying to keep the plug moist. I was only giving it a few ml out of a syringe when it felt too light. Ive been successful starting seeds in soil, rockwool, and coco coins so that makes me feel like I know what Im doing but maybe rapid rooters are different enough that my judgement was wrong.
Ive got 4 more seeds of the painted lady. Question for everyone. Should I drop 3 more of the lady or mix it up with the other breeders?

I say both! One bean from each! If there’s a chance you stalled them early, I’d give them another chance.
Oh yeah for sure. At least one lady is getting dropped.

I hit the reset on them and dropped 2 ladies and 1 blue dog from jean-o. After more thought I’m pretty sure I stunted the last seedlings when watering the starter plug. We should be in business in a few days. They soaked for 24hrs and then went into the plugs last night
Doing my nightly check ins and saw the tiniest sliver of pale stem pushing to the surface. Expecting it to be above ground tomorrow when I get home from work.
