Nancy's Own Garlilocks ΔG

Day 10

Second set of leaves are coming in. I’ll probably start feeding in a couple of days.

Right now I am watering about 2 oz a day. Trying not to drown her.

Any tips or tricks for me?

At this stage it’s a good idea to stop watering close-in to the plant….but rather start watering in a ring about halfway between the seedling and the edge of the pot. This will encourage roots to expand outwards, in search for water….thus avoiding the issue that causes autos to stunt. You’ll want to increase feed water volume as well. :smokeout:

Also, start watering more, but less often. I try to avoid daily watering small amounts…. Again, this can cause stunting in autos.

Thanks @frankthetank ! I will take your advice about watering and change up my normal routine.

Quick question…in soil, should you water until there is runoff?

Not at this stage….

I didn’t see what nutrients you’re using…but once you start feeding salt based nutrients, you at least want to water to about 10% runoff every few waterings. Then, remove that runoff so your pot isn’t sitting in it. This is to flush out excess salts that will build up. Obviously, the build up takes weeks to accumulate, usually about into an autoflowers bloom phase.

At this stage you just want to water enough to fully wet the medium (again in a ring away from the stem and outward)…. I’m not looking for runoff, probably water about 1/4-1/2 gallon, then not water again until the pot is getting light, and I can’t feel moisture when I stick my finger in the soil up to my second knuckle. If I can’t feel moisture, and the pot has lightened up a bit, then I’ll feed again. You want this wet/dry cycle so the roots stretch out quickly. Big roots, big plants.

BTW, that Garlilocks is super dank smoke…!

I miss being able to give reputation points… Frank would get a solid 10 from me!

I second this! It’s how I grow and I always get strong starts. The only time I water directly on the plant so early is when I transplant the sprout into its final home. And then in a five gal pot I only water about 2 cups. After that water in a ring around the plant for a week or two. And still I only water a few cups, 4-5 and that usually lasts 3-5 days between waterings, until it’s a couple weeks old and ready to water in good.

Less water and raise the light. I would wait.

I seriously believe that this is the most important step with autos. Right now you arestablishing their foundation! Master the seedling stage and everything else is cake! If the first 2-3wks are slow, you will have very diminished yields in the end.

I second this. :+1:. Keeps the rest of the soil from becoming hydrophobic.

Day 16

Third set of leaves are coming in nicely. Time to sit back and watch the grass grow. I’ll slowly start introducing some food next watering.

Day 23

Garlilocks is coming along nicely, no stunting this time.

To make sure she is getting what she needs I gave her a light top dressing of some Fax Farms Cultivation Nation Veg and watering around the edges more instead of just the center. I was told to water to the outer edge of the leafs, if not further out.

So far I am happy with how she is doing.

All the way out… you want to encourage roots to reach out to the edge of the pot. They won’t grow into dry spots. At this stage, you should certainly be watering the entire pot.

Happy 420 :smokeout:

I would consider bottom watering this one for maximum growth.

I have never tried bottom watering…I your typical dirt and seed kind of guy … but it doesn’t mean I cannot learn something new.

I’ll have to do a search and see if it fits my style.

Thanks for the tip Nancy!

If you top water a good bottom soak every third or so watering is good for the soil. Depending on how thorough one is watering obviously. In situations where the speed and/or volume doesnt allow a full pot saturation that bottom water is great for the soil.

Day 30

She’s branching out and they are catching up to the top. She’s growing at a good pace now.

Time to start tying her down and opening her up.

So…I read up on bottom feeding and it’s just not my style. But I really appreciate it!

Light schedule is 24/0

450 watt light set at 50%

Watering every other time with fox farms a grow Big

Later this week I am going to start introducing Fox Farms Cultivation Nation Veggie to really kick the growth into gear.

Thanks Nancy!

The first one was on me…not the genetics.
