PNW Outdoor Summer Grow

I’ve two photoperiods and two autoflowers picked out for this summers outdoor grow. I selected a wide :dna: variety for medicinal and recreational purposes. Can’t go wrong with some good Oregon CBD. I’m also wanting to see how these Thcv strains fair for various health purposes such appetite suppressants, who doesn’t want to grow some Auto Skunk thcv or Double Durban. I found GTR to be an interesting strain producer. Early Frost is to see if these hybridized early strains actually shorten my photoperiod cycle and get me a phased harvest with that traditional quality Twenty20 Mendo flower in Sept-October. It can be challenging here in the wet PNW after Labor Day Weekend most years.

You’re growing thc-v heavy strains? What for I thought thc-v counteracts thc and kills the munchies?

Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that is often referred to as “diet weed” or “weederall” due to its unique effects compared to its more famous cousin, THC.

While they share a similar molecular structure, THCV has a shorter hydrocarbon side chain, which completely changes how it interacts with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).

  1. Appetite Suppression
Unlike THC, which typically triggers the “munchies” by activating the CB1 receptor, THCV acts as a CB1 receptor antagonist at low to moderate doses.
  • The Effect: It can actually block the reward-sensing receptors associated with eating, potentially suppressing appetite and aiding in weight loss.
  1. Energy and Focus
Many users report that THCV provides a clear-headed, stimulating effect.
  • The Experience: It is often described as “buzzy” or “energetic,” making it popular for daytime use. This is why it’s frequently compared to caffeine or mild stimulants rather than the relaxing or sedative effects associated with many other cannabinoids.
  1. Blood Sugar Regulation
Research has suggested that THCV may help with glycemic control.
  • The Science: Studies indicate it may improve insulin sensitivity and help regulate blood sugar levels, making it a subject of interest for research into Type 2 diabetes management.
  1. Biphasic Psychoactivity
THCV is unique because its psychoactive effects change depending on the dose:
  • Low to Moderate Doses: It acts as an antagonist, meaning it is non-psychoactive and can even dull the “high” of regular THC.
  • High Doses: It can switch to a CB1 agonist (like THC) and become psychoactive, typically producing a rapid-onset, intense, but shorter-lasting high.
  1. Potential Neuroprotective Properties
There is ongoing research into THCV’s ability to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.
  • Applications: It is being studied for its potential to help manage symptoms of neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, as it may help reduce motor inhibition and tremors.

A Note on Sources: THCV is usually found in much lower concentrations than THC or CBD. It is most prevalent in landrace Sativa strains originating from Africa, such as Durban Poison.

That’s the plan. I’m also interested in a report I read where it helped to correct tinnitus in a patient who was dealing with an eating disorder.

On the other hand I’ve grown some serious munchies strains that have helped people suffering from the effects of cancer treatments. Humbolt seed company Magic Melon is a great strain for that.

I’m curious too, I grabbed that hybridized earlies pack too, just waiting for the right time. I hope it’s a substantial difference in finish speed, that could be a game changer in pnw

I picked up all of their earlies and gotta run at least one this year. We have landscaped up the place a bit so I don’t run 4 full term photos any more. Two is about all I have room for and the Double Durban is taking the #2 spot. I’ve had pretty good success with autos outdoors and a roc bud inc turbo. I have yet to see any auto outdoors yield more than about 7z.

I take that back I did grow several autos outside back in 2017 that were huge.
