I believe its wheat in the all in one’s.
I hope don’t see any of that greenish black stuff!
Yes, I boil them in a 50/50 mixture of water and lemon juice for half an hour… and strain…and discard the mushrooms.
no nausea or anything like that…
BTW… There are similar looking mushrooms, that should not be eaten. I recommend just ordering them, instead of foraging… Unless you are able to accurately identify them. They’re legal and fairly cheap to order… Plus, you can just get ready to eat gummies, or chocolate bar (when in stock, the chocolate sells out)…
Thanks for getting back. Your comment sent me off checking out more information on A. muscaria processing, and I found lots. Bottom line is that either boiling or drying converts ibotenic acid, which can make you sick, to muscimol, which gets you high. Boiling extracts both into the liquid, leaving the mushroom tissue edible, and the liquid psycoactive.
Turns out that the chemical reaction converting ibotenic acid to muscimol is decarboxylation. Now where have I heard that term before. Lemme think… ![]()
If I decide to try them for their mental effects, I’ll pick my own. They can be abundant here in the fall. I eat lots of wild mushrooms, and know A. muscaria well even though I have never tried it. I don’t know of any species that is likely to be confused with A. muscaria, it is one of the most distinctive species I know.
Thanks for mentioning your use of this mushroom, I may well play with this in the fall.
There are amanita look alikes that are certainly poisonous. You may be a mycologist, for all I know… but if not, I’ll encourage you to be a bit careful.
I can see why mate… Amanita muscaris (AKA Fly Agaric) looks fucking scary, man…
Fly Agaric is illegal in this country… I can’t believe they sell them in gas stations where you live @frankthetank !!!
It’s relative, Amanita phalloides (AKA the Death Cap) made world headlines recently when a Woman killed 3 members of her family after lacing a beef wellington with some.
My spore guy also sells Panaeolus cyanescens AKA Blue Meanies… do you guys know anything about these?
@WildBill I forget where you are, but that place I mentioned in my last post (5minuteweeddc.com) had some excellent reviews, they should be able to at least advise you?
Cheers for replying mate. I hope you don’t either!
I think there was a micro-crack in the bag in the folded corner.
The area that I injected was away from that spot, and I could see some normal white mycelium growth on the underside of the bag…
… which is where I would expect it, as that was opposite the injection port and gravity made it drip down from the centre of the bag.
This is the other bag with KSSS yesterday on day 5, looking much better… again, on the underside of the bag.
Hopefully this will continue to spread nicely! ![]()
Haha yeah, the gas station Amanita gummies are usually bullshit… Who knows what is actually in them. That’s why I order from a trusted, and tested source.
Yes, the death cap is extremely poisonous, and grows in the same area as Amanitas… that’s why, again, it’s better to just order some. They’re cheap enough, that it’s not worth risking getting the wrong thing…
Blue Meanies… just another psilocybin containing mushroom. I believe they are rather potent, for their small size…
I’m not a mycologist, but I am a retired biologist who has for many years collected and eaten many species of wild mushrooms, and can accurately identify many more, including A. muscaria. Searching for edibles in the fall is one of my most enjoyable outdoor activities. There is zero chance that I would mistake this species for anything else, including other Amanitas.
You are correct though that most individuals who might have interest in trying A. muscaria would be better advised to buy their supplies from somewhere safe, if they can find such a source. In any case, rule #1 is never eat any mushroom that you are not absolutely certain of the identification.
…and this is why I reiterated that point. Who knows what total noob will read this in the future. Better to just get the information out there, so everyone knows to be as safe as possible.

I’d be suspicious. It might be cubensis “blue meanies” because real panaeolis are wood loving and are very difficult to propagate. They have to enzymaticaly digest lignin which takes a long time. If they grow on dung or grain they are not panaeolus.
I know one person who drilled holes, inocculated and plugged dead wood in a secret location. Years later he finally has a nice yearly harvest that he shares.
But be aware that wood loving shrooms can cause paralysis… which is usualy temporary but can stop breathing, cause cardiac problems serious accidents and more… I’ve been lucky but TBH a 40% chance is enouph for me to politely decline.
Trump just signed executive order that reforms psychedelic drugs!!!
Now if he would just deschedule cannabis like some rumors have said he may do.
I mean…not really. All it allows is research… but I suppose it’s a start.
“Psychedelics” is a pretty broad term. Cannabis can be psychedelic. Sure most shrooms are relatively safe but there are psychedelics that can be toxic and even deadly.
Warning: political comments below.
We will see. I simply don’t believe anything a certain person claims. “they are eating your pets” um no. “portland oregon is burning down. it’s a war zone, with riots everywhere” satelite images showed no smoke. Live feeds showed people peacefully protesting in inflatable parade costumes. “I ended wars” um…nope. evidence? none, and how many wars has he started? And how many has he threatened to start? Sorry. No credibility whatsoever.
If research is allowed to happen it could result in medical advances…or military abuses… I would expect the worst intentions from certain people.
Sorry. Didn’t mean to rant. I may sound cynical but I hope that shrooms and other safe psychedelics are reclassified and that good comes from research.
I do have doubts. Maybe better to keep it underground.
Upon further investigation, it seems this may be the beginning stage of undoing the sweeping psychedelics act of 1971.
The research has mostly been done by MAPS, over the past 40 years or so. Hopefully, all they need to do is incorporate that research into some kind of FDA process, that can fast track some therapies (the way one day ketamine just became available for other uses than anesthetic uses).
I think ibogain, mdma, and mushrooms will hopefully be looked at first, since there’s already been lotsa research on those drugs being used to treat psychiatric disorders.
I’m not a fan of the guy, but if someone on the opposite party did this, I’d be happy. So let’s be happy. ![]()
You are right, MAPS have done important work, for sure. And I want myself and all beings to be happy. If it were anybody else I wouldn’t be so suspicious of ulterior motives…
In the meantime, I’m planning to take a couple of grams in a week or so and watching as people learn to cultivate.
I don’t care who does it, just as long as it gets done.
My point exactly. Sometimes political shit doesn’t have to be about the politician. A win is a win…
Ah. Yes. You are absolutely right.
Maybe there’s also hope for cannabis.
Apologies for the rant. No excuse but things have been tough… A few things have been triggered this week.
But on the high note. Yes. When psychedelic medicine is mainstream alot of people will be successfully treated.
Totally understandable my friend… we’ve all been there. ![]()
Interesting that you mention this mate, because if you look at this price list from my spore Guy, you’ll see Bluemeanies listed in the cubensis strains in the 1st column 4th row down, and you’ll also see a separate box at the bottom of the 2nd column listing the available Panaeolus strains… proper Blue Meanies!!!
And without getting too political… I dunno how you haven’t gone completely mental with that nutcase in charge… 1st time it was kinda funny (Covfefe anyone?), but this time it’s mindblowing what he gets away with pretty much every single day.
Anyway… (slow deep breaths)
So you might remember that I inoculated 2 bags of Red Sorghum (AKA Red Milo) about 2 weeks ago, one with KSSS and the other with Apetar.
The Apetar went bad on day 4, so the Grainbag Guy sent me a replacement bag. I bought a couple more spare grainbags, plus a few other bits and pieces.
I don’t know why the Apetar went bad, the Spore Guy is taking no responsibility… he tests his stock regularly for contamination.
It was nice of the Grainbag Guy to send me a free replacement bag, but was it his fault???
I doubt it.
It was probably something I did wrong, and even though I thought I was good with my disinfection, I remember being quick about it, getting the job done and taped up with micropore, just like I did with the KSSS
BUT…
I did the inoculation on the floor of my weed growing tent with the fans on, so I’m sure there was plenty of airbourne contaminants floating about in there!
Lesson learned, now back on track.
Here’s the underside of the KSSS bag on day 12…
The grain has taken the KSSS really nicely, and I could see the mycelium spreading up to the top side of he bag now…
Once the mycelium have taken about 20% of the bag, it’s time to mix it all up to spread the developing mycelium evenly throughout the grain, so that it colonises quicker.
The big rule when growing any kind of mushroom is sterility… contamination is our enemy, so you need 70% Isopropyl Alcohol in a spray bottle to spray copious amounts over everything, all the time.
It’s better to use 70% rather than 100%, because 100% evaporates too quickly, not enough time to kill everything, while 70% stays around longer and kills a lot more bugs.
As well as Alcohol. it’s a good idea to use a Still Air Box (SAB), and these can be bought or made DIY. You don’t have to get one, but the success rate drastically improves if you use one.
The idea is that in a SAB, the contaminants in the air fall to the bottom, so slow methodical work is done to avoid moving the air around in it too much, and you have a small shelf or rack in it to keep your work off the floor level where all the contaminated air is.
So strictly, the Dude in the above pic is still taking some risks keeping his syringes on the box floor. Tut tut!!
What’s good though is the jars he’s using… I might get into inoculating jars of popcorn kernels, rather than bags of Red Milo (AKA Popcorn Tek). That will save money, and eliminate the risk of bag breakage.
Here’s my SAB, ready to get to work. crucially there’s a little wire rack to put everything on after I disinfect them, and a couple of paper towels that I used to wipe everything down…
Basically you put everything you might need inside the SAB which has been previously been sprayed with Iso, and left for a few mins for the air to settle.
Glove up and stick your hands into the armholes, then spray your gloved hands and everything you put inside, then once each item is disinfected, put it on the shelf (which you will have sprayed with ISO a number of times already).
After touching anything, spray your gloved hands before and afterwards, and do this each time before moving onto the next item!!!
I also bought fresh sterile needles… some people re-use their needles, and flame them before use… not a great idea in a SAB full of Alcohol fumes…
Just to ram the point home… (for fucks sake…)
NEVER LIGHT A FLAME IN A STILL AIR BOX !!!
Again, wait a couple of minutes to let the air settle, and then get to work, nice and slowly.
I sprayed everything again, and inoculated a new bag of Red Sorghum with Apetar live culture.
I then gave the KSSS bag a good mixing up, being careful not to perforate the bag. Again, I had sprayed the bag all over beforehand, along with my gloved hands… if anything had burst, I could have repaired any damage with micropore tape in a safer environment.
Yesterday, 2 days after mixing, here’s the underside of the KSSS bag showing the mycelium growing all through the grain…
This is the top front…
… and this is the top, rear end…
I’m hoping the bag will be solid white mycelium in a couple more weeks.
In the meantime, next week I’m gonna set up a ‘Martha Tent’… wait and see!
Thanks for following, hope you get some inspiration… and again… I’m completely new to growing any kind of mushroom… I’m no expert, I’m merely passing on what I have only just learned myself.
I have 2.5g of some Lizard King mushrooms to take in about an hour or so… I’m gonna break on through to the other side!
See you next time!
