And they are in their new home! Got te girls transplanted this morning. After I took the pic I noticed the spillage ans went back and vacuumed. Got to get a watering can with a long spout as I’m not raising that light every time I water lol!
I also recycle and re amend as well as keep it very biologically active but without the cover crop, it’s mostly equal parts coco and peat with a unch of goodies and a bunch of perlite added in, been running the same stuff for about 2.5 yrs now. I have a batch cooking while I’m growing at all times so I’m ready to go! Wash, rinse, repeat!
I bought a short length of hose and a used a hose clamp on the end of my watering can. Makes it flexible and very versatile!
Plants are looking good although they should be larger by now. So I was adding water to my bases and I got thinking, the light didn’t look intense enough. So I got out mu meter and the PPFD was only 197! That’s at 12 inches!! Either the potentiometer is failing or the driver. Luckily, I have spares of both.Going to swap out the potentiometer shortly.
I just can’t win this grow…lol!
Also wanted to mention my soil mix. I’ve whittled down my KISS mix even more. My soil is as basic as you can get. And it works! My thinking on this is the simpler the mix, the fewer problems you’ll see. It also shows that all the fuss with organics is unnecessary. Make a good, strong mix and be done with it! But people just can’t help themselves, they have to tinker and and add this and add that. And all that may be good for the plants, but really isn’t accomplishing much except to cost you money. So I trimmed my soil down to the absolute basics.
My mix is:
5 gallons potting mix
one gallon EWC
one gallon compost I usually prefer cow compost, but upon recycling of the soil I will add lobster compost ever 2nd recycle.
one quart Garden Tone dry nutrients.
That’s it. I don’t even use lime anymore and haven’t seen any ill effects. I think something people overlook when seeing those PH charts is the PH range for soil. they mean REAL soil! NOT potting mix, which has no soil in it! I’m going to see if I can reach out to an expert somewhere and ask what should be the PH range for what we mistakenly call soil.
Light fixed! I bought 2 spare dimmers way back, just in case, and if I decided to build a light.
NOW my girls are getting 800 PPFD.
I believe lime gives a ph of 7 that’s much to high for coco but that’s just an opinion an many soil or medium producers add lime ironically some of the things I do many would suggest I don’t ![]()
Amazing what the proper amount of light can do… My ladies have exploded with growth. It’s a shame they spent 4-5 days at only 200 PPFD. Will be interesting to see how they turn out now.
Remember when I was whining about the size of my plants?? Well I guess my internal clock was off… I just checked and these girs are only 30 days above soil today! And boy are they growing! I think pre-flower stretch has started should be signs of flower soon!
They all started looking like they were getting light green.. I forgot to check my damn water again . I checked and the PH was 7.8!! ppms were 147. Screw this, back to RO water I go!
I made a batch of water, added 250 ppms of Megacrop and PH’d to 6.2 and top watered. I’d l let the bases go almost dry, just prior to this. It seems to have stopped what I think was lock out by lowering the PH. I refilled the bases with Ro water to which I added about 30 ppms of Megacrop. I do this because it helps keep the ph of the water stable. I Ph the water to 6.2.
Looking good Pops!
Thanks! I’m very pleased with how they are doing!. Should flower soon.
And the girls just keep getting bigger! I’m getting the kind of growth I’d hoped for but didn’t think was happening. Started some light defoliation, there was stuff on the bottom getting no light at all. Doing defol on the two in the back is going to be difficult… and I’m not lifting damp 1o gallon pots!Might let the one on the far left go au natural! But ohhh, I’m looking at these plant and dreaming about making hash!
Looking great in there! ![]()
Honestly, I had a hard time believing those bases could wick enough water. But they are doing an excellent job! Filled them today, 2.25 gallons of water adjusted to 40 ppms and PH 6.2
Pop I just read your bio! 75 years old?!
Hats off, Brother! Respect where it is due! And then on top of that, still trying new things!?

Here is hoping I can be in your shoes one day!

That’s kind of you, thank you. Yep, never been afraid to try new things! Curiosity has driven me all my life.
Hey @pop22 , why aren’t you in the cultivators club?
I can’t I’ve got my grows scheduled to the end of my days! However, if there’s a need for like one more participant I’ll consider squeezing one in somewhere. Hopefully you get some younger talent in there also. But I appreciate you asking me.
I was asking because we are going to be doing some testing for Autopots and I remember hearing you show interest in their products.
Ok, now you have my interest lol! I’d really like to try their Tray to Grow!
