Any way to see a simple text list/table of new entries, as with the prior site?
I find it a hassle and time-consuming to see what entries are new or “Latest.” You can’t just scan the page; there is no simple text list as before. Unless I’m missing some option, you have to scroll down multiple page lengths filled with jumbled (columns with no horizontal alignment) entries with apparently arbitrarily selected graphics that distract, lack context and convey nothing useful.
And is there any user’s guide, set of instructions for the new site?
Forums and subforums are now structured as “Categories” and sub categories. We have recreated many from the old forum to try to create some familiarity (and we can add and remove as necessary.)
On the main page index, you’re going to see a mashup of all the recent replies to topics.
If you click into a category, you’re going to get a list view of ONLY the topics in that category (just like how the old forum worked.)
Here is the Genetics category. You can see there’s a list of all the journals in here, including journals from the breeders sub categories, that populate the list.
And simply feel free to ask your questions if you run into anything; this has been a learning process for everyone, but give it a week and you’ll be cruising around this place faster and easier than we ever did on Xenforo!
That is not remotely accurate. The displayed pictures are from a plug-in that pulls the very first image from the very first post of a topic. This creates a graphical representation for what the topic is about. Users have the ability to edit their first posts of the topics, which allows them to change the pictures out as they see fit. Hence why Live Stoner Chat is a graphic for Live Stoner Chat. The food topic has pictures of food. Grow journals have pictures of plants, or harvested results, etc.
So … hobbes … um .. just to be clear - we are keeping our rep right!? (backdated to 2010 or whatever) - i dont want to cause any “discord” in “discourse” or rock the apple tree
Nice to see the personalities have stayed the same ^^
There actually is a reputation system for Discourse, but it’s locked behind their paywall. If we self hosted the site; all the plugins are unlocked, but I have zero interest in self hosting the site at this point in life. Go-go-gadget easy button!
It doesn’t work like the old rep system either; instead it rewards you for doing things on the site, as opposed to giving rep slaps.
lol
Remember those early days of the site when there would be those accidental Kamehameha rep slaps? lol
Shit I remember some of the forum members just circle-repping each other on purpose. Thems were the days.
