Increasing storage on the forum + upload capacity

Good morning AFN!

I am currently in the process of looking at Amazon S3 storage solutions for our image uploads, general file attachments, and video uploads.

This is one of the more requested features we’ve had so far on the new platform; so we are doing our best to accommodate and to be able to provide a solution that works for everyone.

Our current file attachment uploads are limit to a flat 30 MB. This is great for pictures; but it’s not meant for lengthy videos. Truth be told; platforms like YouTube and Vimeo are better for videos of this nature (it’s literally their platform and their job to be the best at it,) where we are using the software we have to the best of our ability.

There will still be limits on file size uploads even after finding an appropriate storage solution (I deleted over 300 gigs of cat videos on the old forum if we want to talk about where some of this storage solution goes,) so there will still be some frugality (and common sense) involved.

There is not much we can do about the video player option for the forum itself as well; again we are just not full featured like an actual video platform site.

The content itself will be served through Amazon CloudFront, which is a Content Delivery Network, much like how we used to run CloudFlare on the old forum. This both helps protect our data, and it also helps to make sure “fetch requests” for the images are valid and not spam.

So all that said; I actually have a fair bit of this setup already (as of yesterday.) I am working on figuring out how to get things to communicate properly with each other.

Thank you all for supporting the site and forum and it’s been exciting to see this start to take shape!
